What a polished floor costs for your size
Three taps: the size of the floor, the finish and where you are. The answer is a published Irish rate times your area.
Published rate × your floor area
€10,800 to €18,000
120 m² at PMAC's published €90 to €150 a m². Our multiplication, not a quote. Selfbuild Ireland's starting rate for this size and finish is €55 to €60 a m², so from €6,600.
- Selfbuild Ireland reports two quotes of €20,000 for 190 m² of mid-range polished concrete in a city new build, about €105 a m².
- On a new build, the slab is poured anyway. The polish is the extra; on an existing slab, the grinding and polishing is the whole cost (PMAC).
- None of the published rates says whether VAT is in. Ask.
How this is worked out
The floor area you pick, times PMAC's published €90 to €150 a m². Selfbuild Ireland's starting rates for the size and finish are shown under it, with its €20 to €30 a m² extra for rural jobs. The multiplication is ours. Rates read on 3 November 2026. Edges, joints, steps, colour, the sealer, cracks to fill and access all move the price, and so does how far the contractor travels. It's an estimate, never a quote.
What it is
What a polished concrete floor is
Polished concrete is the concrete slab itself, ground flat with diamond tooling, hardened with a densifier and polished in finer and finer passes until it has the sheen you want (PMAC). There's no tile, board or coating on top: the slab is the floor.
How much stone shows depends on how deep the grinding goes. A light grind leaves a smooth cream surface. A deeper grind cuts into the sand and small stone (salt and pepper), and deeper again shows the stone itself (PMAC). The finishes sets them out.
- A new floor: the slab is poured to be polished, then cured for at least 28 days. New floors.
- An existing floor: the slab you have is ground and polished. Existing floors.
- Commercial: offices, shops, units and student blocks. Commercial floors.

A photo that works
- Daylight, lights on if it's dull.
- From the doorway, so most of the floor is in the shot.
- A building site is fine: the slab, the plaster, the lot.
- Hold the phone level, not pointed at your feet.
Who builds them
Where new slabs are poured
Of the 36,215 new homes finished in 2025, 5,874 were one-off houses, the self-builds and individual houses on their own sites. That's when most people decide on polished concrete: the slab is going in anyway, and polishing it can be the floor. Outside the cities, Selfbuild Ireland says expect about €20 to €30 a m² more for the travel.

FAQ
Questions people ask
How much do polished concrete floors cost in Ireland?
PMAC publishes €90 to €150 a m². Selfbuild Ireland gives from €55 to €60 a m² for a standard finish on floors over 100 m², and over €120 a m² on smaller floors or higher-end finishes. The cost guide has every figure.
Can you polish an existing concrete floor?
Often, yes. On an existing slab, the only cost is the grinding and polishing (PMAC). Whether yours polishes well depends on the concrete, what's been stuck to it and the cracks. A contractor needs to see it. See polishing an existing floor.
Does polished concrete work with underfloor heating?
Yes. The pipes go in the concrete slab, and the floor holds and releases the heat slowly (PMAC). PMAC's advice is to keep the water no hotter than 35°C and run the heating low all the time. See underfloor heating.
How long before a new slab can be polished?
At least 28 days of curing (PMAC). Do the heavy building work before the grinding starts (PMAC).
Is polished concrete cold or slippery?
It feels cool without heating, which is why most new polished floors in houses go over underfloor heating. PMAC says it's as slip resistant as polished marble, granite or porcelain, and needs a slip resistant coating to reach an R10 rating.
Are you a polished concrete company?
No. Polished Concrete Flooring is an introduction service run by Bartlomiej Standa, trading as Elevate Ireland. We pass your request to one polished concrete contractor that covers your county. They look at the floor, price it in writing and deal with you directly.
